Tax Manager – Japan
Overview
This role sits within the Japan Tax Center of a global healthcare leader and provides comprehensive tax support across multiple legal entities in Japan. The team oversees corporate tax compliance, tax reporting, and governance while partnering closely with finance, regional/global tax teams, and other key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities

Ensure timely compliance with local tax regulations, tax accounting, indirect taxes, transfer pricing, and related statutory requirements.

Handle US tax reporting and adhere to global tax procedures, internal controls, and SOX requirements.

Support process optimization, tax governance, and implementation of new systems and tax controls.

Provide tax advisory to business and finance partners and coordinate with external consultants.

Manage tax audits and monitor legislative changes, ensuring timely updates to business processes.

Contribute to ad-hoc projects and cross-functional initiatives across finance, supply chain, legal, HR, and other business teams.
Work Environment

Work is deadline-driven, with peak periods around quarterly, year-end, and tax return cycles.

Advisory assignments may be non-routine, requiring agility and strong prioritization.

Regular interaction with senior finance leaders and regional/global teams.

Ongoing professional development is expected to stay aligned with evolving tax regulations.
Requirements
Qualifications

Professional tax or accounting certification preferred.

8–10+ years of tax or accounting experience, ideally within a multinational company or international tax firm.

Strong project management and stakeholder-management skills.

Ability to communicate complex tax matters to non-specialists and provide practical recommendations.

Proactive mindset with strong leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.

Effective communication skills in Japanese and English.
