Tax Manager – Japan

Overview
This role sits within the Japan Tax Center of a global healthcare leader and provides comprehensive tax support across multiple legal entities in Japan. The team oversees corporate tax compliance, tax reporting, and governance while partnering closely with finance, regional/global tax teams, and other key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure timely compliance with local tax regulations, tax accounting, indirect taxes, transfer pricing, and related statutory requirements.

• Handle US tax reporting and adhere to global tax procedures, internal controls, and SOX requirements.

• Support process optimization, tax governance, and implementation of new systems and tax controls.

• Provide tax advisory to business and finance partners and coordinate with external consultants.

• Manage tax audits and monitor legislative changes, ensuring timely updates to business processes.

• Contribute to ad-hoc projects and cross-functional initiatives across finance, supply chain, legal, HR, and other business teams.

Work Environment

• Work is deadline-driven, with peak periods around quarterly, year-end, and tax return cycles.

• Advisory assignments may be non-routine, requiring agility and strong prioritization.

• Regular interaction with senior finance leaders and regional/global teams.

• Ongoing professional development is expected to stay aligned with evolving tax regulations.

Qualifications

• Professional tax or accounting certification preferred.

• 8–10+ years of tax or accounting experience, ideally within a multinational company or international tax firm.

• Strong project management and stakeholder-management skills.

• Ability to communicate complex tax matters to non-specialists and provide practical recommendations.

• Proactive mindset with strong leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.

• Effective communication skills in Japanese and English.
